Ranking of African countries best prepared for e-commerce
According to a recent study by Statista*, the African e-commerce sector is on track to reach a value of USD 24.7 million this year, compared to USD 40.7 million in 2025. A boom driven among other things by Covid-19 and the blockages it has imposed on conventional trade.
But who will benefit the most from this situation? According to UNCTAD, it is the Mauritian Republic, which is with an index of 58.4, the African country best prepared for the growth of this mode of business. An index established on the basis of factors such as the development and deployment of the Internet, as well as the digital quality of life.
Just behind come South Africa (56.5), Tunisia (54.6) and Algeria (52.5). Ghana is 5th with 51.9, Senegal 10thwith 44.1, and Gabon 13th (38). Among the countries least prepared for change, we find Sierra Leone (14.4), Comoros (12) and Niger (5.6).
